KAIA QUARTANGO

Featuring tango music from the Rio de la Plata region, Quartango is an embrace between two musical worlds: the spontaneity and passion of tango with the nuance and blend of the classical string quartet.

“Through Quartango the quartet sings with emotions. The precise rhythm, intonation and blend of sound all work as a unit that serve the music.”
-Mtro. Tulio Belardi, former principal conductor of
Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra, Brazil

The album brings together tango music from Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel, Osvaldo Fresedo, Pedro Laurenz, Sebastian Piana and Gerardo Matos Rodriguez. Bandoneón player Richard Scofano joins the quartet for two iconic works, La Cumparsita and Milonga de mis amores. Kaia’s combination of classical training and passion for world music makes them uniquely poised to bring the music of Quartango to life.

LATINOAMÉRICA

Latinoamérica is KAIA's debut album. A mix of contemporary classical and folk-influenced music from Latin America for string quartet featuring works composed and arranged by Julián Orbón, Elbio Barilari, Gustavo Leone, Rubén González, Cliff Colnot and Andrés Martínez de Velasco.

New Latin American Music for Guitar & String Quartet

The album beautifully blurs the lines between jazz, classical, Latin and world music.

Originations

Ryan Cohan featuring KAIA String Quartet

On Originations, Ryan Cohan brings his broad spectrum of musical influences and sensibilities across multiple genres into focus through a personal lens in his most compelling musical statement to date. With the support of a Chamber Music America New Jazz Works commission (his third), Cohan penned Originations - a stunning work of six integrally linked yet independently standing compositions scored for an eleven-piece jazz chamber ensemble. The narrative driving the music boldly illuminates and affirms the vital human and spiritual connections between disparate traditions and ideologies. Featuring a dynamic symbiosis of Middle Eastern and North African musical themes, Western classical music elements, modern jazz and impressionistic harmonic colors and improvisation, Originations blurs its diverse stylistic ingredients to create a vibrant sonic tapestry woven in Cohan’s distinctive voice.
